Greg Camp - Composer for Valley of the Sun

Greg Camp composed and performed Valley of the Sun's iconic soundtrack. If you don't know his name, you most likely know his music. Greg Camp is best known as the guitarist and primary songwriter for the alternative pop band Smash Mouth, Greg Camp is also an established producer and solo artist. Born in Covina, CA, in 1967, Camp was an experienced punk-oriented musician when he co-founded Smash Mouth in the mid-'90s. Largely responsible for writing most of Smash Mouth's hit songs (including "'All Star," "Walking on the Sun," "Then the Morning Comes," and others), Camp has a knack for mixing influences such as Dick Dale surf guitar and Elvis Costello pop — as well as hip-hop, new wave, and more — with his general love of retro culture. In 2008, Camp announced he was leaving Smash Mouth to focus on several projects, including his solo material. He released his debut solo album, Defektor, on Bar None Records in 2008.

Valley of the Sun Arizona Cast & Crew Screening

Ranch House Pictures and Hotbed Media announce that they will host a special engagement cast and crew screening for its feature film VALLEY OF THE SUN. The venue for the screening will be the UltraStar Theater in Surprise, Arizona. The date for the screening will be October 29, 2011 at 2pm. Tickets will be available for sale to the public on the UltraStar website and at the box office. Director Stokes McIntyre will attend the screening and host a Q&A. The film features performances from local actors Sonia Abrams, Maggie Andrews, Anita Bakey, Cale Epps, Opera Singer Paula Gray, Bob Hawkes, Joe Jones Klor Rowland and Philip Thorneycoft who work alongside stars Johnny Whitworth, Barry Corbin, Heather Burns, Bette Ford, Beth Grant, Pasha Lychnikoff, SNL Legend Garrett Morris, Peter Jason and Academy Award Nominated Graham Greene.VALLEY OF THE SUN follows the story of Andy Taggert, who after high school set out for Hollywood to pursue acting. Though, years later he finds himself as Vick Velour and acting in adult films. The film picks up Andy’s story when he walks off a video set to the dismay of his producer. Disillusioned, Andy lands himself in a mental hospital. His estranged parents pick him up and take him to their Arizona retirement community where Andy’s troubles seemingly all but disappear.  It’s not long before his past unexpectedly comes back to haunt him.

McIntyre decided to make this film because he believed the premise had an element of inherent humor and he liked the idea that it portrays a young person learning from his elders. “Many of the people I respect the most in my life are my elders. They all have a lifetime of wisdom to share and I love listening to their stories and learning from them. I wanted to capture that type of generational relationship in this movie,” says McIntyreProducing the movie wasn’t without its challenges. Aside from the typical challenges of making a low budget movie, the content of the film also presented a challenge.  “People hear ‘adult film star’ and they think ‘dirty movie’ and they don’t want to be involved. On the contrary, I was working to create a relatively wholesome movie about a young guy in a tough situation,” says McIntyre. The film isn’t currently rated but it McIntyre estimates the film would be rated somewhere between PG-13 and R.McIntyre cites, that ultimately, the production was made a success with the help of the local community… the actors, the crew and the citizens of Sun City, Happy Trails, Surprise, Phoenix and Scottsdale. “People stepped up and let us onto their streets, into their homes and into their lives for almost two months and in the process we met some absolutely wonderful people. This movie is a testament to their gracious spirit.”
